    How did they decompose so quickly? I have plant matter in my compost bin that is still recognizable from last year! Granted, I’m not a dedicated composter, but I’ve done a lot more with it than just chop and drop… so, how do you make them disappear!?

    A very interesting example of agroforestry. But I wouldn't call this permaculture because he relies extensively on external inputs: the arizona water supply for irrigation, and it's finite and unsustainable in the long-term. Permaculture, or permanent agriculture, emphasizes types of land-use which can last for generations, are very resilient, and sustainable. If he were to irrigate his food-forest using rainwater with arid-adapted tree crops, he would be much better prepared for the dryer future arizona will certainly have. A great example of an arid permaculture food forest is Geoff Lawton's Jordan "Greening the Desert" Project.

    Thank you for your nice video I’m new subscriber to your channel. I’ve a question about pomegranate video you did not mention anything about the flower could be male or female and which flower will convert to a fruit male or female ? Or pomegranate tree is self pollinating? Or it doesn’t matter if the flower is male or female all flowers will be converted to a fruit? Please get back to me when you get a chance Thx

    • @GrowingInTheGarden

      Clouds are a welcome respite from the hot sun. Usually we don't get them for days on end, but when we do it's a good time to harden off seedlings and plant.

    Love your channel! I also love watching my 43 sunflowers grow in my backyard here in Mesa, AZ ❤ I was SO GLAD to hear that I can grow more now, here in June and they can handle the heat!! I just cut down 7 & want to continue to see them out there! Is there a month that you wouldn't recommend to plant in the ground/plant cloth potting containers? I believe I live in zone 9b - NE Mesa. Red Mtn Ranch/Las Sendas area. Any tips on when NOT to plant? Thanks in advance! 🌵

    I’ve seen worm teas with sugar in it as a food source. Is this something different?

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden День назад

      Here's the response from Zach: Lots of people recommend Molasses. It primarily feeds bacteria and we don’t have any trouble growing bacteria. So we don’t. It is also useful for longer brews (briefly: as you brew longer good bacteria dies and then gets eaten by bad bacteria-which you really don’t want…..so people add sugars to sustain the good bacteria). Our tea recipe focuses on fungal dominance and helpful nematodes, neither of which is really helped by molasses. Frankly, it would be way more useful To add fresh alfalfa if they are looking to pump up their tea. It will speed fungal growth. We also hate long brews. Anything over 36 hours is risky. The tea peaks somewhere around 18 hours. I never understand taking a risk for longer tea. If something happens where you can’t use it on time, dump it and start over. No one should be risking growing potentially pathogenic bacteria like E coli and Salmonella.

      @@GrowingInTheGarden wow thank you so much for your detailed response. I really appreciate that. I will take all that into consideration. I do live in South Florida and we have a problem with some nematodes. I’m wondering if that would actually be bad for me down here to increase nematodes.

    Hi @Growing In The Garden. Hope all is well. I have few questions to ask. May I please know the rationale behind as to why oil, meat/bones and dairy products should be avoided? Also can I add cow/horse manure to my compost? And lastly, I live near the coast and have access to seaweed so would that also be beneficial for my compost if i toss some? Thank you for sharing this information. New follower here 😊 Looking forward to your reply. Kind regards from Philippines.

    • @GrowingInTheGarden
      @GrowingInTheGarden День назад

      Oil meat and bones can attract rodents and they are not easily consumed by bacteria and broken down properly. Fats and oils will linger in piles and may negatively impact microorganisms. They begin to ferment and spoil before they break down. Grass grazing animals manure can be added. Seaweed is also beneficial.

    I keep one in the house all year round in soil in a room with only indirect light. They grow like crazy. I get so many from one that I usually cut and toss until I need more. already rooted too. Treat as a house plant. I keep soil moist I spritz it next to my tropical plants.. house temp is an even 73 degrees. But I can see where putting in the garden outside would eliminate the sun transition.. I have to be very careful when bringing mine outside because they wilt like crazy as soon as the sun hits them.
